It provides a basis for encouraging advanced research activities through conducting interdisciplinary exchange and holding the symposium, which cannot be supervised by a single academic society, by taking advantage of KAST, essentially an organization of eminent scholars in various areas of study.

As befits the purpose of the project, diverse-ranging interdisciplinary topics are treated. For example, the topic for the 41st symposium, ‘The Scientific Reality of Mad Cow Disease and Responses’, was deemed timely, constructive and significant not only for the science and technology community but also for the country, as in-depth discussions unfolded with even eminent foreign scholars participating as speakers.

KAST Symposium will gain in importance, as the growing trend demands convergent approaches involving not only science and technology sectors but also humanities and social sciences.
