Welcome to the Korean Academy of Science and Technology
Thank you for visiting our homepage.
People in the contemporary world are greatly indebted to the scientific and technological advancements for their affluent and convenient lives. In reality, however, the general public tend to think of science and technology as only difficult or puzzling, and remote.
Science and technology is the vital source of national competitiveness. Scientific and technological developments lead our national economic development.
As high-quality education and culture are harmoniously combined on the foundation of the economic development, we will be able to realize an advanced country which the whole nation has been cherishing.
An advanced country in science and technology cannot be built overnight. Academies of science and technology in advanced countries in Europe and America,
which are proud of 200 to 400 years of history, have been playing a locomotive role in advancing world science and technology. Founded in 1994, our academy,
the Korean Academy of Science and Technology (KAST), has made a remarkable advancement over the past 19 years. Now we are happy to say that KAST is at the stage of collaborating shoulderto shoulder with those academies in the advanced countries.
KAST is prepared to spearhead the national development in science and technology, and ultimately play a leading role in facilitating the overall development of our country and society.
We will make steady and faithful efforts in carrying out the tasks bestowed on us. Those tasks include research and consultations on science and technology policies for the government,
programs for promoting basic science, programs for international cooperation in science and technology, the Hall of Fame in Science and Technology Program, the Support for Frontier Scientists Program, and the various award programs for scientists and engineers.
The Park Geun-hye administration was launched with the vision of a creative economy which is to transform the country from a “following” one into a “leading” one by creating growth engines through an economy based on imagination, creativity,
and science and technology, and generating new markets and new jobs. Our academy will be a leader in realizing such vision and play a role of locomotive not merely for advancing science
and technology, but for transforming the whole country into a leading advanced country.
