The long-harbored wish for having KAST's own building is being realized since the implementation of the office building construction plan was accelerated by the 3rd president In Kyu Han. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on February 21 at the site located at 7-1 Gumi-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam City, Kyonggi-do.

1. Purpose of Building Construction

- To house a "Science Hall of Fame" to exhibit and introduce achievements of scientists and engineers with outstanding contribution to the development of science and technology and thereby to encourage and honor scientists and engineers.

- To facilitate academic exchanges with overseas academies which will help publicize Korea's scientific and technological development and provide members with an atmosphere and opportunities for international joint research.

- To resolve the existing shortages in spaces for administration, meetings, studies and library and to be prepared for ever increasing space demands for international academic exchanges.

- To maintain KAST's status and prestige internationally by having its own
head office building.

- To provide retired senior scientists with space for research and publication activities so that the society can benefit from their accumulated knowledge and experience.

2. Master Plan for Construction

- Location: 7-1 Gumi-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam City, Kyonggi-do
- Area: 1,160 square meters (351.5 pyungs)

B. Scale of Building
- 8 floors above ground, 4 floors under ground
- total office space: 9,884 square meters (2,990 pyungs)

C. Total Construction Cost: 14.62 billion won

D. Funding Sources:
- Existing fund: 1.1 billion
- Donations from members: 0.5 billion
- Donations from industry: 5.46 billion
- Rental Key Money: 3.56 billion
- Government assistance: 4 billion

F. Recognition of Construction Fund Donors

- Names of all donors of one million won in cash or in kind, or above, will be engraved on a stone and placed at the lobby for good
- Titles of honorary members for individuals and of Patron member will be offered for donations of 100 million won or above
- Donations of certain amounts will be entitled to naming facilities after the donors'
names as exampled below:
