KAST is contributing to the globalization of Korea?셲 national
science and technology, by raising the status of Korea?셲 S&T
and planning for the advancement of Korea?셲 S&T through
cooperation with leading science academies abroad, and with
institutions germane to developing countries to fulfill its
role of being a responsible, crucial window of science and
technology diplomacy as a non-governmental organization.

KAST conducts scientific and technological cooperation and
exchange with foreign countries such as Australia, Canada,
China, France, Japan, Mongolia, New Zealand, Russia, Sweden,
United Kingdom, and USA through bilateral agreements. KAST
also contributes to enhancing the national image and prestige
through multilateral cooperation with foreign countries in
pursuing common goals and resolving common problems.
KAST widely utilizes ideas and advice of its foreign members
for the advancement of domestic science and technology infrastructure.
KAST has joined membership of various science-and technology-related
international organizations to consolidate the position of
the Republic of Korea in the international arena through active
collaboration and exchange.
KAST
is currently operating the secretariat for the Association
of Academies of Sciences in Asia(AASA) which was started on
September 22, 2000 with 17 scientific academies in Asia and
Oceania participating as its charter members. AASA is aimed
at promoting communications and cooperation among scientists
in the region to contribute to the national and regional development.
It was agreed at its charter meeting that KAST as the key
initiator of the association takes charge of the secretariat.
